National Future Day at DSwiss: Sparking curiosity, one circuit at a time

On 13 November, for Swiss National Future Day and as part of the special program Girls – computer science – go!, DSwiss opened its doors to very special guests: a group of curious 7th graders taking part in Switzerland’s National Future Day.
Their mission? To find out what people in tech really do all day – and to discover whether this world might be something for them.
What followed was a hands-on, eye-opening journey through the heart of digital security and product development.
A first glimpse into the world of digital products
We started the morning with something simple, creative and fully in their hands: designing their own digital safe UI.
Armed with markers, paper and plenty of ideas, the participating girls sketched login screens, folder layouts, and features they felt a secure app should have. Then came the moment of truth: presenting their designs on the big screen and receiving live feedback from one of our Product Managers.
Seeing how confidently they pitched their ideas, and how seriously they took usability and security set the tone for the whole day.
When hardware comes apart, eyes light up
Next, our Operations team took the group behind the scenes of real infrastructure. Old devices were opened, components identified, and questions fired away with impressive speed. The absolute highlight? Discovering that server hardware contains actual gold.
We’re still not sure if it was the material science or the treasure-hunt vibes that made their eyes widen, but either way, they loved it.
Building a mini-network (and a bit of confidence)
With cables, switches and mission cards in hand, the students teamed up to build their own small working network. No simulation, no shortcuts – real hardware, real connections, real troubleshooting. In just a short time, they managed what many adults would find intimidating. You could almost watch their confidence grow as the final setup clicked into place.
Cracking the codes to open the vault
To wrap up the day, our CISO led an interactive session on classical ciphers:
- Caesar
- Emoji
- Atbash
- Rail Fence
The goal: solve enough puzzles to unlock a four-digit vault. They were fascinated not just by the ciphers themselves, but also by the discussion around encryption, password strength and the role AI plays in modern security. Several participants later told us that this activity changed the way they think about digital safety.
“I think this is something I might want to do.”
The biggest reward for us? Hearing that three of the participating girls could imagine working in IT someday, and that others were newly inspired by data security, engineering, or product design.
That’s exactly why we take part in National Future Day each year.
We believe that technology becomes more accessible, inclusive and future-proof when young people get the chance to explore it with their own hands, guided by people who care.
Thank you to the team behind the day
A huge thank you goes to all DSwiss colleagues who made this experience possible, from Product to Operations to Security.
Your passion, patience and genuine enthusiasm made the day both educational and unforgettable.
You didn’t just explain what we do: you showed it.
And you reminded all of us why working in tech can be so rewarding.
